The 20th International Congress of Linguists (ICL20) was held in 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa.
It was the first time in the history of CIPL that the International Congress of Linguists was held on the African continent. This stimulated interest in linguistics in this region of the world and will hopefully encourage African governments to be more favorably inclined to funding linguistic research.
The 20th ICL was organized by three universities: the University of Cape Town, the University of Stellenbosch and the University of the Western Cape. The congress has been hosted in the International Conference Centre of Cape Town.
