Miguel Oliveira Jr. is Associate Professor at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Brazil. He is the founder and editor of Cadernos de Linguística, an open-access journal that has introduced several initiatives in alignment with Open Science principles. He served as president of the Brazilian Linguistics Association (Abralin) from 2017 to 2021 and coordinated the Graduate Program in Linguistics and Literature at UFAL between 2018 and 2021. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from Simon Fraser University (Canada), where he received the Dr. Tai Whan Kim Scholarship and the Outstanding Achievement Award. He has held research positions at the University of Southern Denmark, ILTEC (Portugal), the University of Manchester, the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, and the University of St Andrews. He has also been a visiting researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California (Davis), University College London, and the University of São Paulo. His doctoral dissertation is considered a seminal contribution to the study of discourse prosody and is frequently cited. He has coordinated and participated in multiple international research projects funded by agencies such as CNPq, CAPES, FCT, the European Commission, the NSF (USA), and UK Research Councils (AHRC and ESRC). His current work focuses on experimental online methodologies for speech and language research and involves collaboration with institutions both in Brazil and abroad.
