In preparation for the planned XXI ICL 2023 in Kazan, Kazan Federal University (Russia), together with the Institute of Linguistics RAS and the Institute of Linguistic Studies RAS, organized an International Linguistic Summit “LANGUAGE DIVERSITY IN THE GLOBAL WORLD”. This was already the second Summit organized by the intended ICL organizers. The first took place completely offline in 2020. The 2021 Summit was a combination of offline and online. Both summits were organized in partnership with CIPL and took place November 15-19, 2021.
Associated Secretary-General prof. Camiel Hamans represented CIPL and presented a plenary under the title ‘Why a language counts more than a Siberian tiger’, in which he stressed that the protection of endangered languages is not only important because of ecological reasons, but also for economic and welfare reasons.
