The chair for Ethnolinguistic Vitality and Diversity in the World at Leiden University is a joint initiative of CIPL and CIPSH.
The chairholder, Prof. Dr. Felix Ameka, has been elected as a Member of Academia Europaea (Class 2021).
The chair organized a number of activities over the last year. We highlight a couple of these:
- Dr. Ameka was co-organiser of the Technologies for Enhanced Documentation of African Languages (TEDAL) eScience Lorentz Workshop.
- He was also co-organiser of the 10th World Congress of African Linguistics (WOCAL10). During this conference, a workshop on “Centering Pragmatic Phenomena in African languages” was held.
- During the Leiden Summer School the chair organized the Descriptive and Documentary Track.
Dr. Ameka also took part in the following events:
- LAGB Linguistics Association of Great Britain Conference: special session on Particles in African languages as an Invited Discussant.
- He was an invited panelist at the American Friends of SOAS (AFSOAS) webinar ‘Endangered language documentation: the way forward’.
In November 2021, there will be the launch of the UNESCO World Report on Languages (WAL), Paris. Dr. Ameka is a member of the Scientific Editorial Committee.
A large number of Public Outreach Events and Academic Meetings 2022 are planned, to give more visibility to the chair.
