Final Call for papers
Sessions on Language Technology and Language Endangerment
This year the Poznan Linguistic Meeting is celebrating its 50th meeting (16-19 September 2021). Therefore CIPL, Comité International Permanent des Linguistes, contributes to this joyful meeting by organizing two additional sessions. One of these sessions, organized in cooperation with the The European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (EACL),will be devoted to Language Technology. The other one, organized in cooperation with The Foundation of Endangered Languages (FEL), will be devoted to Language Endangerment.
The ‘leitmotif’ of PLM50 is “Linguistics matters: On the importance of the study of language in the modern world“. Therefore, the topic of the section devoted to Language Technology is ‘“how language technology supports multilingualism and language variety in the modern world”. The topic of the section devoted to Language Endangerment is Future of less favoured Languages in the modern world: Indigenous, Regional and Minority status.
Keynotes at the Language Technology session will be presented by:
- Bonnie Webber (Edinburgh): Language Technology supports characterizing variety in language beyond the clause
- Frieda Steurs (KU Leuven and CIPL): Language Technology: the key to achieve full digital language equality in the new multilingual and interconnected world
Keynotes at the Language Endangerment session will be presented by
- Tseard de Graaf (Fryske-Akademy, Ljouwert/Leeuwarden, Fryslân): The use of historical data for the safeguarding of endangered languages
- Rogier Blokland (Uppsala) (tbc)
Abstracts for contributions are welcome.
