Eno-Abasi Essien URUA is a University of Uyo Distinguished Professor.
Eno-Abasi Essien URUA was appointed a Professor of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages in the University of Uyo in 2002. She obtained a PhD from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (1990). Professor Urua is a Commonwealth Fellow and an Alexander von Humboldt (Georg Foster) Fellow, a Fellow of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. She has served her institution as the Dean of Arts, (2006-2008); Director, International Programmes (2008-2011); Director, Centre for Gender Studies (2013-2018), a two term University of Uyo Governing Council and currently Director, School of Basic Studies, Ediene Abak (University of Uyo) (2024 to date). Her research interests spans Language Documentation and the Phonetics and Phonology of Lower Cross languages. She has served as editor and member of editorial boards of linguistic journals, published several books and journal articles in addition to serving as external examiner to various universities and an assessor to professorial candidates.
