Frieda Steurs is the managing director and head of research of the Dutch Language Institute in Leiden (INT) and professor emeritus at KU Leuven, Faculty of Arts, research group Quantitative Lexicology and Variation Linguistics (QLVL). She conducts research in the field of computer-aided translation, terminology management and multilingual document management. She was President of TermNet, an international terminology network founded by UNESCO, until 2018, and is currently the Secretary-General of CIPL (the International Committee of Linguists). She is co-founder of NL-TERM (the Dutch terminology association) and a former board member of EAFT (European Association of Terminology). In 2022, she received the Simon Stevin medal for her merits related to the Dutch-language terminology.
She is the editor of the series “Handbook of Terminology” (John Benjamins) and is now preparing volume 4: Terminology Planning in Europe. (to appear December 2025)
She has coordinated a large number of research projects in the field of translation technology, terminology management and digital language resources.
