The topic of the endangered languages is one of the key focus areas of the Association. CIPL supports summerschools and workshops in this field, make it a focus of attention in our Linguistic Bibliography and established ten years ago an Endangered Language Award. This prize for work on endangered languages is awarded every five years during the congress.

The Endangered Languages Prize Committee consists of prof. D. Bradley, chair; prof Chr. Lehmann, Prof. P.K. Austin, dr. N. Ostler and dr. D. Whalen.

In 2013 the prize was awarded to dr. Eladio (B’alam) Mateo Toledo, a Q’anjob’al Maya linguist.
